Refugee Sponsorship Committee Update

Just want to let you all know the latest news about the Siddiquis:  Freshta and Adela, whom St. Mary’s sponsored as refugees from Afghanistan a couple of years ago.

Adela’s chemotherapy treatment is working well, and her hair has grown in beautifully.   And Freshta is engaged!  She met her fiance through a mutual friend at the doggy park where she walks Lucky.  He has Afghan parents and came to Canada at the age of 5, and he also owns a dog (a very important condition for Freshta!)  He is working as an electrician on the new St. Paul’s Hospital building, while taking courses to become an electrical engineer.   They had a lovely engagement party for family members (including aunts who came up from California).   Freshta has decided to train as an early education teacher, for which there is apparently considerable government financial support, so she will be changing career.  Everyone seems very happy, and we are for them.

Thank you so much to all the members of the congregation who donated to help support the Siddiquis settle into their new life in Canada.
