Brian Conway - Associate Rector's Warden
It is a privilege to be considered for a position as a warden at St-Mary’s. Contrary to my appearance, I am a millennial, being at St-Mary’s since the turn of the century, perhaps a bit more. My first contact with St-Mary’s was a presentation to Parish Council in the ‘90’s about HIV/AIDS, as the music director of the day was living with this infection and there were concerns about what that meant. The questions I was asked came from a loving place, wanting to support John and viewing it as an opportunity for parish growth. I was hooked, and we joined the parish. Over time, we had 3 beautiful daughters who were baptized here and spent Sunday mornings with Penny in the front room. In my professional life, I am an infectious diseases physician and researcher, with a particular interest in designing systems of care for vulnerable inner-city residents. I run a clinic on Main Street, 2 blocks from St-James Church. Matthew and I have become fast friends. His work inspires me and his support strengthens me. I look forward to the opportunity to serve you as one of your wardens.
Jon Kennedy – Member at Large
I have been attending St Mary’s for 27 years, and I am married with two daughters, both of whom attended St Mary’s, were active in the youth program and confirmed at the church. I am the CEO of Rextag Corp, a power & energy infrastructure data & intelligence business. I was previously CEO of Glacier Media for 25 years and have over three decades of management, strategy, governance, financial and leadership experience in business information and media. I have served on non-profit and educational boards as well, and I am currently a Trustee of Trinity College School and a director of Village Media (a digital news media business in Ontario). I have a deep Christian faith and I hold the Golden Rule as central to my professional and private life. I have been serving as a member of the Finance Committee.
Dianne “Di” Adams - Alternate Synod Delegate
I discovered St. Mary’s last summer when I moved to Kerrisdale. I learnt about the community lunch and other community based programs. This is like coming home. I grew up in the Anglican Church and have been welcomed with open arms. I enjoy volunteering in the office, and I look forward to doing more. What a journey I have been on: house director living with women off the streets, a preschool teacher….
I am grateful for this opportunity to be of service. Life has been preparing me for this moment.
Ian Sutcliffe - Alternate Synod Delegate
I grew up as a Kerrisdale kid on 37th at Osler. I was an altar boy at St Peter & Paul Parish on 38th near Granville and did the collection and bank deposit on Sunday’s. I went to UBC & earned a B.Comm and a CA (CPA) designation. I went on to become a technology expert and serial entrepreneur until retirement last year. During my career I held roles of Partner, CEO, Board Chair or Director in several private, public, and NFP organizations. My core role was turning around troubled organizations.
In 2011, I co-founded a charity, RestoreCanada.org dedicated to loving and guiding people suffering from debilitating distress. The organization has helped over 5,000 people and families. In 2021 my wife Kathleen and I (plus 3 adult children and 2 grandchildren) returned from living in Ontario and in spring 2023 found our home church, St Mary’s Kerrisdale, which we love.
In Markham I was part of the Olive Branch Community Church and was engaged in outreach and various governance, including treasurer. At St Mary’s I have served on the discernment committee for Kingsley. I would feel blessed and honoured to participate in the governance of St Mary’s.
Pam Whittall – Alternate Synod Delegate
I have been an active member of St Mary’s since 1989 when my son was baptized here. Actually, I was also baptized at SMK but attended other local churches while growing up. I am a retired Landscape Architect. Over the years I have been involved in many church ministries, including Worship, Christian Formation, Fellowship, Fundraising and the Refugee Committee. I have served on Parish Council and on Corporation as a warden. One of my favourite things to do is walk the Labyrinth and I have really enjoyed - and would highly recommend - the quarterly Labyrinth services.
Zoe Olias – Youth Synod Delegate
I have been going to St. Mary's for about 3 years now and have found myself around many kind-hearted and welcoming people. St. Mary's has a great sense of family and is full of kind-hearted people. Coming to St. Mary's has helped me connect with God in different levels and has helped me meet new people. I am interested in joining council as I feel as though I am a great leader and would love to be a part of the decisions that bring change to our Church.
